A new hi-tech production facility to supply specialist gaskets and seals for the water treatment industry has opened today (10 November 2017) in Greater Manchester with the backing of the Department for International Trade.
J A Harrison’s £2.8 million installation in Middleton, Oldham, houses cutting-edge technology, machinery and manufacturing processes to create specialised gaskets and seals for water treatment plants. It also incorporates a tightly controlled supply chain that ensures the facility meets the industry’s stringent safety and quality requirements.
The company, already a supplier of bespoke and standard-dimension gaskets to prominent energy, chemical and medical organisations including Siemens, Dow Chemicals and the NHS, recently obtained ISO 9001 -2015, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 accreditations for its new production plant to begin supply of its products directly to water treatment projects around the world.
The 38,000 sq ft new facility’s benchmark design incorporates computerised industrial presses, lathes, ovens and cyber-safe security systems, as well as significant efficiencies to cut lead times and down-time at water treatment plants. Enhanced handling, packaging, storage, cleaning, waste control and review methods are also in place to guarantee that products are not contaminated.
J A Harrison’s managing director, Keith Shepherd, said: “Contamination, safety of products and security of systems are big issues for customers in the water treatment industry. We must be compliant with water treatment and sewage industry procedures to satisfy tough auditing required of suppliers. It is a flagship facility for our industry and gives us the scope to produce gasket and seals for the biggest water treatment projects in the world.”
